Mouse anti-human folate receptor alpha antibody monoclonal [26B3.F2] specifically recognizes the alpha isoform of folate receptor. Folate receptor alpha is primarily expressed in the apical surface of some polarized epithelial cells of normal tissues (such as kidney, lung, breast, and salivary glands) and on many cancer cells of epithelial origin; namely, ovarian cancer, thyroid cancer, non-small cell lung adenocarcinoma (NSCLC) and endometrial cancer.In the most widely studied tumor, epithelial ovarian cancer, expression of FRalpha increases with tumor stage [12], and is associated with decreased survival [11]. However, in NSCLC, FRalpha has been shown to be specific for adenocarcinomas relative to squamous cell carcinoma and other histologic subtypes, and increased expression has been correlated to increased survival [4,9].

This antibody recognizes a protein of 25-26 kDa, identified as Bcl-2. This antibody shows no cross-reaction with Bcl-x or Bax proteins. Bcl-2 suppresses apoptosis in a variety of cell systems including factor-dependent lymphohematopoietic and neural cells. It regulates cell death by controlling the mitochondrial membrane permeability. Bcl-2 appears to function in a feedback loop system with caspases. It inhibits caspase activity either by preventing the release of cytochrome c from the mitochondria and/or by binding to the apoptosis-activating factor (APAF-1). Expression of Bcl-2 inhibits programmed cell death (apoptosis). In most follicular lymphomas, neoplastic germinal centers express high levels of Bcl-2 protein, whereas the normal or hyperplastic germinal centers are negative.
